Volvo Offers PHEV Powertrain to S60

Volvo has added PHEV power to its S60 premium executive cruiser range with the R-Design Plus model boasting a power output of 385bhp.

The T8 Twin Engine, its marketing speak for hybrid powertrains, has already been seen in the PHEV version of the XC60 SUV, among other cars from the Swedish automaker. In the S60, the gasoline engine generates 299bhp, an upgrade over the 246bhp in the non-hybrid S60, with the electric motor developing an extra 86bhp, enough to fire the car to 62mph from standstill in 4.6 seconds.

The battery is a 11.8kWh unit, providing electric-only range of 36 miles. Fuel economy is a claimed 176.5mpg (146.97mpg US) on the WLTP combined cycle, while CO2 emissions are rated at 39g/km. This car will be joined by a 402bhp T8 Polestar Engineered version in the near future.
