Volkswagen Pulls Out Trusty SUV Card for ID.5 GTX

Volkswagen will spur on the growth of its ID. BEV family range with the debut of a near market ready concept SUV version of its midsized ID.5 at the IAA Munich Motor Show next month.
Styled as a coupé, as so many crossovers are these days, Wolfsburg the ID.5 GTX is the first of its type based on the Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) with dual motor four-wheel drive. Fully connected, it can receive OTA updates and is fitted with V2X technology.
While the motor oil-brand Castrol may have issues with the name it has been using for decades, Volkswagen says the GTX harks to a “new athleticism” following the tradition of GTI, GTD and GTE models of the ICE era. Part of its sporting intentions comes thanks to a large 77 kWh lithium-ion battery between the axles enables a projected range of up to 308 miles. The automaker says it expects the ID.5 GTX arrives at European dealers next year.
Styling-wise, there are high mounted IQ.Light LED matrix headlights. The light strip that tapers towards the Volkswagen logo has been combined with three illuminated honeycomb elements on both the driver and passenger side. At the rear, horizontal lines accentuate width, while the LED rear lights boast a 3D design.
