Toyota Brings Rally Race Yaris to the Road

Toyota is bringing its baby rally-race star to the road in the shape of the Toyota GR Yaris making its world debut in January.

The car will be officially unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon and lays claim to advanced technologies, knowledge and experienced gained from Toyota’s title-winning participation in the World Rally Championship (WRC) under the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) banner. It is be the second race derived car to be launched globally by the automaker following on from the Toyota GR Supra released at the North American International Auto Show 2019.

The carmaker says the GR Yaris has completed its final development stage and a prototype was recently put through its paces by Akio Toyoda, Toyota’s former racing driver global president.

Its sporting credentials started in 2017 with the Yaris WRC clocking up five victories and securing the manufacturers’ title the following year. Its success was bettered in 2019 with the team claiming both the drivers’ and co-drivers’ championships.
