Toshiba adds 60GB HDD to automotive-grade product line

Like Toshiba's existing automotive-grade HDD series, the new sixth-generation 60GB automotive HDD (MK6050GAC) features the improved altitude specification of 5,500 metres, pushing the boundaries of in-dash system design to meet the operating extremes of today's driving environment.

According to Techno Systems Research, Toshiba commands 84% of the automotive-class HDD market, having reached the milestone of more than eight million automotive-grade HDDs shipped into OEM and aftermarket solutions since the company introduced its first automotive-grade HDD in 2001.

Toshiba will showcase its automotive class HDD line at the Telematics Detroit 2008 show this week, and Scott Wright, product manager of Toshiba's Storage Device division, will speak on a panel titled "Exploit the future capabilities of connect in-car device integration" today at 16h15, to offer insight on the role of storage in the development of the digital car.
