Telecoms Start-Up Developing 5G in-Vehicle Fleet Smartphone

A Montreal telecoms start-up is developing a 5G ‘in-vehicle’ smartphone aimed at fleet vehicles.
Siyata Mobile claims fleet managers will be able to configure the device according to different customers’ needs. It intends for the phone to develop on its existing 4G/LTE UV350 device’s capabilities. It also claims there will be “demand” for 5G in vehicles when the network launches in the US later this year, and “existing North American Tier-1 carrier relationships will benefit” from the phone’s introduction.
Siyata says fleet managers will benefit from 5G’s “improved connectivity”, despite the likelihood of existing physical barriers to 4G remaining. CEO Marc Seelenfreund claimed 5G “has a very exciting future and we plan to be first to market with a 5G dedicated in-vehicle device”. Vice-president of technology Gidi Bracha added the phone would “be a strong complement to our existing in-vehicle device category”.
