Seat Bolsters Electrified Lineup With PHEV

Seat is keeping step with its Volkswagen parent group’s drive to bury the ghost of Dieselgate with a fixation on all electrified options for its powertrains.

With this in mind, the Spanish automaker is adding a PHEV variant to its Tarraco SUV, claiming the car gets a 114bhp boost and allowing it to cover more than 30 miles on electric power. The car will produce 241bhp in total, with 295ft-lbs or torque coming from the powertrain.

Its 1.4 turbocharged gasoline engine is responsible for 127bhp with the remaining 114bhp coming from the 85kW electric motor, powered by a 13 kWh battery. Performance claims include a 0-62mph sprint time of 7.4 seconds, with a top speed of 134mph. On the official WLTP test cycle, the car outputs less than 50g/km, with zero emissions when driving electrically. The Tarraco PHEV will be available in 2020.
