Mercedes Details 2L Four Cylinder AMG Turbo

Mercedes-Benz has developed a new 2.0 liter engine, named M 139,  which it says is the most powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine in series production.

Torque has increased over the previous most powerful engine, the M 133, by 38 ft-lb, up to 368 ft-lbs. Likewise, power has also increased by 40 BHP, to 415 bhp.

The engine will be available in compact Mercedes-AMG models in two versions, the 415 bhp S-model, and the basic variant with 381 bhp.

Power delivery in the engine is of particular note, with Mercedes saying that due to engineers carefully balancing the torque curve with the 5,000-5,250 rpm range, power delivery is similar to a naturally aspirated engine, eliminating turbo lag and giving more immediate throttle response.
