JLR Claims UK’s Biggest Workplace Smart Charging Facility

Jaguar Land Rover has opened what it says is the biggest workplace EV smart charging facility in the UK.

The automaker has installed 166 smart chargers supplied by Shell-owned NewMotion at its engineering center in Gaydon outside Warwick, central England. It says it wants to boost EV adoption among the site’s employees and claims the chargers can add 22 miles of range to its i-Pace every hour of charging.

The 7kW AC chargers are cloud-connected and form part of a European public charging network accessible to participating JLR employees. Users will be able to monitor charge levels using an app and visitors to the center will also be able to use the chargers. JLR claims one study shows 40% of European EV charging takes place at work while another suggests 75% of UK owners of EVs are unable to do so, demonstrating the need for workplace charging facilities.

JLR’s head of e-mobility Mick Cameron said: “We hope that by providing a network of electric charging points to staff and visitors at our Gaydon engineering center we can help encourage the uptake of alternative fuels among our employees.”
