Infiniti EV Prototype 10 Follows Prototype 9 … Who Knew?

Infiniti has announced the name of its latest electric performance concept car to be unveiled together with an artist’s rendering, writes Paul Myles.
Unsurprisingly, and possibly a little unimaginatively too, the new concept is dubbed Prototype 10 following on from last year’s Prototype 9. Like the 9, the 10 will be debuted at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance event, is a single-seater but, this year, is clearly an ultra-modern hypercar unlike the distinctly retro concept shown at last year’s event.
The carmaker claims its mission was to produce an EV that can still stir the emotions and give the promise of “thrilling” performance. The concept’s design, this time, clearly draws from the brand’s styling language first seen in the Infiniti Q Inspiration and hints at future design cues.
In a statement, according to Karim Habib, Infiniti executive design director the Prototype 10 “echoes the layout and design of some of the most evocative car designs of all time, where power was celebrated through high-powered single-seat competition cars” and acknowledges that “we found inspiration in an optimistic bygone era in which cars were characterised by the simple love of driving”.
The automaker, which has already claimed it will electrify all of its new production cars from 2021, will unveil the Prototype 10 at Pebble Beach on August 23.
