Google Latitude lies

According to a news item we posted on Wednesday, Google Latitude finds your friends in real-time.

Unless your friends have told it to say they're elsewhere.

If people can manually change the settings so that Google Latitude says they're somewhere they're not, then how do you know when it's telling the truth and when it's lying through its digital teeth?

I can appreciate some users might want to hide from certain people, but I don't see the point of something that tells me my friend is just round the corner in London when he's actually a few thousand miles away in Las Vegas or Singapore.

I mean, what's the point?
