China TransInfo launches China’s first real-time traffic service on web and mobile phone

The newly launched traffic website provides real-time traffic conditions, as well as traffic event and street closure details, in all five of these cities, as well as information about available parking spaces in Chengdu.
The company also launched the multi-city, real-time Traffic Jam Index, which classifies each city's traffic as seriously congested, congested, mildly congested, smooth, or very smooth, based on the percentage of streets in each city that are congested.
China TransInfo's proprietary technology, based mainly on GPS sensors installed in taxi fleets and road side sensors, offers the most accurate real-time traffic data and the largest urban coverage in China.
In conjunction with the website launch, the company has also introduced the first software in China that enables motorists to check real-time traffic conditions in multiple cities via their cell phones.
According to CEO Shudong Xia, China TransInfo plans to extend the coverage of the service to more major cities in China by the end of this year, and will also include public transportation, such as buses and subways.
