BMW Showcase the ‘Personalised Driving Experience’ at Telematics Munich 2014

The relationship between the vehicle and the driver has continued to shift since the introduction of telematics. This has moved beyond simple navigation and location-based services that were introduced within the first iteration of connected car services. BMW now propose that with the use of the smartphone, they have enabled the driver to customise the driving experience.  BMW have chosen to share their vision of a personalised driving experience at The Telematics Munich 2014 Conference & Exhibition this November.

Through either a website portal, the smartphone or directly from within the car, a BMW owner can remotely install popular apps such as Pandora, Rhapsody, Aupeo and host of others into the vehicle. What is unique about the delivery method is that a BMW owner does not have to speak to his or her dealer for the new software to be installed in the car. The whole process is done remotely, over the air (OTA) and it is immediate.

Simon Euringer, the Head of ConnectedDrive at BMW has said, “Both Telematics Munich and Telematics Detroit is, for BMW, one of the leading industry-wide platforms to announce and discuss automotive telematics strategies!”

In a similar approach to Apple, BMW have opted to create this functionality with in-house cloud services. Brand integrity and security are said to be the two main reasons for the move.

Also taking to the stage will be Daimler and Volkswagen. They will be making their connected car strategies clear to the industry at Telematics Munich 2014. See the full agenda here: http://www.telematicsupdate.com/munich/conference-agenda.php
