America News: Savi launches South America’s first RFID-based info network

Savi Networks and Colombia-based logistics and security services provider, Emprevi, officially launched the first RFID-based information network operating in South America that automatically tracks the location and security status of cargo shipments from in-country factories to sea ports.

The event signified the transition from a pilot testing phase to full operational production of the information network, which extends between Emprevi’s customers’ manufacturing facilities, intermediate transportation checkpoints and ports.

The network of readers captures data transmitted over radio waves from RFID-based e-Seals affixed to containers, and routes the information to the transportation security software, which provides continuous location and security status information, as well as automated alerts on security breaches and other exceptions.
