World News: TomTom acquires Horizon Navigation’s patent portfolio
TomTom has acquired the entire worldwide patent portfolio of Horizon Navigation.
Horizon has been developing vehicle navigation systems for eighteen years, and developed original equipment navigation solutions for General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Porsche, and Nissan, as well as aftermarket products for Audiovox, Clarion, Dual and Cobra Electronics.
Horizon has also agreed to provide US based R&D to augment TomTom’s development teams, and will continue to develop its own software products.
Harold Goddijn, TomTom chief executive Harold Goddijn said that the patents, many of which date back to the early years of GPS, will add to TomTom’s own rapidly growing patent portfolio.
