World News: GE Asset Intelligence launches one-stop-shop trailer tracking solution

This advanced technology has enabled an innovative new range of GE VeriWiseTM solutions that focus on improving five critical business areas in the transport industry: fleet utilisation, maintenance and up-time, on-time deliveries, freight and fleet security, and cold chain freight quality.

The solutions are based on technology that is customised specifically for trailers, but can also be installed on containers, swapbodies and rail cars.

According to Walter Verhelst, director of Asset Intelligence, Europe, the technology is also designed to production-fitted on new trailer equipment.

A key feature of the modem technology is protocol integration with the trailer's brake controller, providing useful EBS diagnostics such as brake condition, driver braking behaviour, speed and load. The modem is compatible with braking systems from multiple manufacturers, but was developed jointly with KNORR-Bremse.

The modem can also integrate with reefer engine controllers for instant access to reefer diagnostics such as set point, engine running hours, fuel level and shutdown alarm codes. This integration was made possible through collaboration with Carrier Transicold and Thermo King.

Verhelst says that GE Asset Intelligence has 150,000 modem units activated globally, and its sister company, GE's TIP Trailer Services, has been operating for more than forty years, with more than 75,000 trailers on the road and locations in more than twenty European countries.
