World News: Columbus completes first stage of pilot project with Motorola

Columbus Geographic Systems (GIS) has successfully completed the first stage of implementing a new project with Motorola.

This pilot project was implemented in a subsidiary company of Motorola, which operates a call centre that provides navigation and location-based information to drivers and hikers.

This information is relayed to the end user in a number of ways, including voice message or SMS to a cellular phone, or directly to an in-car PC system.

Using Columbus' system, the call centre solution represents a significant break-through for Motorola, enabling the company to provide its users with maps and aerial photographs for off-road navigation, as well as a wide range of tourist information from approved third-party content providers.

According to Columbus CEO Tsvika Freidman, one of the challenges for this project was implementing the new system with no service disruptions for Motorola's end users.
