The Oscar’s of The Telematics Industry – Which Automaker Will Be Crowned the King of Connectivity?

The competition for the Best OEM Infotainment Solution is heating up – which automaker will be crowned the king of connectivity is soon to be revealed.

There are just 3 days left to submit a nomination for the Best OEM Infotainment Solution for the Telematics Update Awards – the Oscar’s of the telematics industry. Which automaker will be crowned king of connectivity will be revealed at a glamorous ceremony on the eve of Telematics Detroit (the world’s largest gathering of automotive infotainment execs). This is an accolade that puts the winner on a media pedestal that not only brings celebration, attention and respect on the night, but creates an elusive reputation for the winners for years to come – with the industry questioning what winning solution will they pull out of the bag next? Last year’s well deserved winner was My Link by GM, but with a host of automakers taking mobility to the next level this year, the competition is really heating up.

To exemplify the progress made by the industry, the new Ford Focus was launched at MWC and features SYNC 2 and AppLink functionality to pair with smartphones, and offers some advanced driver assistance features like a Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), automated parking and an Active City Stop feature that helps avoid imminent collisions with pedestrians, bikers and cars in urban environments. "It is always very special and exciting to launch a new vehicle,” said David Girling, Ford business head in EMEA. “To do so at MWC demonstrates the increasing convergence of technology and personal mobility.”

Furthermore, the Volvo Car Group demoed a new “Roam Delivery” service that allows consumers to have their shopping delivered straight to their cars. The best part is that the consumer doesn’t have to be at the car to receive the delivery, meaning that people who are at work and sick of missing deliveries to their homes can simply send a delivery man to their car instead. “By turning the car into a pickup and drop-off zone through using digital keys, we solved a lot of problems since it’s now possible to deliver the goods to persons and not to places,” says Klas Bendrik, CIO at Volvo Car Group.

Now is the time for automakers to get their nominations in for the Best OEM Infotainment Solution to be in with a chance of winning (the deadline is March 15). Nominations are completely free and can be submitted via the Telematics Detroit website: http://www.telematicsupdate.com/detroit/awards-index.php
