Teleroute tackles freight theft across the UK

TruckPol, the national intelligence unit forming part of the ACPO Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service, collates statistical data and intelligence on all UK road freight crime.

Road freight theft is a growing problem for the UK transport and logistics industry, costing a reported ?250 million in loses to the economy each year. Teleroute hopes to help the industry combat freight fraud by highlighting the importance of safe freighting systems and providing customers with a secure environment in which to do business.

Andrew Round Field Intelligence Officer for TruckPol commented: "Road freight crime is a national problem and security of information for businesses involved in the supply chain is paramount in reducing the risk of fraud and deception offences."

Since operations started more than twenty years ago, Teleroute has introduced a number of built-in systems that help to eliminate freight theft and fraud.

Adrian Samuel, UK and Ireland sales manager for Teleroute stated: "Security has always been at the heart of Teleroute's operations and we take safety issues very seriously. We are constantly striving to enhance the safety and security of our own freight exchange on which members can trade loads and loading capacity."

From the outset Teleroute has vetted companies applying to become members of Teleroute for solvency and good repute. Every UK customer is visited in person by a local area sales manager, allowing Teleroute to build up a considerable bank of local knowledge.

In addition to its online database of vetted members and customers, Teleroute recently launched an instant messaging service, Freight Talk, which allows Teleroute customers to send online messages to each other and can also be used to confirm details of completed jobs.

Teleroute's transactional model also has the capability to trace the company details of anyone searching for freight on the system, which, combined with identifying the IP address of any customers connected to Teleroute, provides a detailed audit trail.
