Tata Motors and Samsung Unite to Bring In-Car Infotainment System to India’s Roads

It is projected that Tata Motors will launch passenger vehicles onto the market early next year using Samsung’s MirrorLink technology.  The technology will not necessarily be restricted to the automotive maker’s more luxurious cars, such as the Safari or Aria.  Tata Motors is also considering extending MirrorLink to some of their volume segment cars.   This is an exciting step for the connected car in India, which has yet to follow in the footsteps of many other countries in making in-car infotainment widely available to the general public.  Both brands are focussed on the mass-market so this partnership will bring in-car infotainment to the fore in India.  Drive Link is an app which is designed for the smartphone and tablets while on the move.  The technology will also make on-board and vehicle lifestyle management information available to customers.

“It is a case of when, not if, in-car infotainment will reach the mass-market in India” said Shreya Ganapathy, Director at Telematics Update.  “What is less certain is what form this connectivity in the car will take in India.”

It is with this very question in mind that Telematics Update has just launched its Telematics India and South Asia 2014 Conference and Exhibition (28-29 May, Bangalore, India).  Market-leading automotive makers, telematics service providers and tier 1 companies such as Maruti Suzuki India, Tata Elxsi, GM, Mahindra & Mahindra and Infosys will come together to speak  on focussed sessions such as which system will offer the most in demand suit of services, but at the right price point for India.  Debates will come from industry experts with experience on both an international and local level.
