Suzuki Unveils First Global BEV Concept in India

While several automakers have decamped from the volatile Indian market, Suzuki is targeting the populous nation with the world premiere of its first BEV.

The Japanese carmaker unveiled its BEV concept model the eVX at the Maruti Suzuki Pavilion at Auto Expo 2023, which is being held in the suburbs of Delhi. The concept is an all-electric compact SUV as the base for its first global strategic BEV. Suzuki’s move comes after the departure of Ford from the market last year as the latest western brand to leave the region after suffering substantial losses.

The series production model is scheduled to be introduced to the market by 2025. Suzuki currently offers SUV models such as the Grand Vitara and S-CROSS in various countries around the world and expects the eVX to join that global line-up. The car’s exterior borrows heavily from Suzuki’s design language applied to existing SUV products.

In addition, it aims to carry forward the brand’s 4×4 legacy into the new electric era. Specifications released so far state it is 14.1ft long, 5.9ft wide and 5.2ft high and, using a 60kWh battery pack, it claims a range of 341 miles measured in the modified Indian driving cycle (MIDC).

In a press briefing at Auto Expo 2023, Suzuki Motors president Toshihiro Suzuki, said: “I am delighted to unveil the eVX, our first global strategic EV. At the Suzuki Group, addressing global warming is a priority. We are promoting a range of global measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Suzuki will continue providing valuable products to our customers around the world by optimizing them for the way different people live and drive.”
