Suzuki Debuts PHEV and Autonomous ‘Mobile Room’

Suzuki will unveil a PHEV model of a compact SUV and a lounge-on-wheels autonomous concept at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month.

The SUV, called the WAKU SPO, will be the latest in a series of PHEVs from the Japanese automaker. It already has the Ignis PHEV and a hybrid Swift available now, with both classed as subcompact, so the new SUV will be a size up.

Meanwhile, the autonomous vehicle’s interior is designed as a “mobile room” hence it’s box-van appearance. For passengers, it means “everyone can use transportation time and comfortable space effectively” says the automaker. It’s named ‘Hanare’, which Suzuki says means ‘detached cottage’ in Japanese.
