Solar Powered Autonomous Heavy Truck Unveiled

A Chinese solar powered autonomous heavy truck has been unveiled claiming proof of concept for the technology.

Photovoltaic (PV) manufacturer Jolywood has teamed up with truck builder Breton to debut the truck at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) held from in Shanghai. Jolywood’s PV energy system charges the e-truck using energy supplied by its generation station but with additional wind turbine assistance.

The PV module used in the system is the JW-T60N N-type monocrystalline bifacial paving module and is equipped with a transparent mesh backsheet to reduce weight. According to Chen Fangming, chairman of Breton, the future for energy will be electrical, low-carbon and intelligent.

A company spokesman said: “Powering by solar and wind plus energy storage system is integrated by automation and the internet. Become a significant green alternative to gas-guzzling trucks.”
