Software Makers Partner for In-Car Payments

Two software companies have unveiled a “strategic alliance agreement” they claim will lead to increased availability of in-car consumer services.

Telenav, a maker of software packages for connected vehicles, and Sionic Mobile, a provider of on-board payments software, say they’ve agreed to collaborate in providing drivers of connected vehicles in-car payment facilities for goods and services.

The deal means both companies’ existing technologies will see consumers “notified of offers and commerce opportunities” while they drive via their “digital wallet”.

Telenav also says its “in-car hybrid navigation” services will use drivers’ “search, routing, mapping and ETA sharing” activities as part of the deal. Telenav president HP Jin said the alliance would allow automakers to “further enhance their driver experience and at the same time generate new streams of revenue through in-car advertising and commerce”.
