Rule No.1: Thou shalt not crap on thine own doorstep

Not only were software pirates imprudent in promoting their products at an event like CeBit, one of the most likely places to be crawling with anti-counterfeiting officers, but one company was stupid enough to be doing it just a few metres away from the real software owner's booth.

The fact that the Chinese salesmen had to haul the product from their pockets for interested customers could have been the first indication that a dodgy deal was afoot.

A trademark protection company, commissioned by NNG Global Services, has been conducting a series of raids to curb illegal software use.

Representatives from IPR Consulting carried out targeted monitoring at CeBIT 2009 in Hanover, as risk analyses had indicated that several companies would be offering pirated software.
