Prodrive Partners With Swedish Startup to Build EV HGV

Prodrive has partnered with a Swedish startup to manufacture a zero emissions HGV.

The HGV, designed by Volta in Sweden, will have a range of around 100 miles and will be available in either 14 or 18 ton variants. It will have a top speed of 50mph, with the battery packs placed under the body of the truck, using a skateboard platform similar to many electric cars.

Volta declined to comment on battery size or electric motor specification when TU-Automotive contacted them for comment. Prodrive, meanwhile, will develop the vehicle into a ‘drivable demonstrator’ by summer next year.

With the removal of the bulky diesel engine, it means the driver can sit lower down, making the vehicle safer to drive in city centers, as the driver can more clearly see pedestrians and other vehicles. The cab also has wrap-around windows for visibility and the driver’s seat in the middle, again allowing for better visibility.
