Pininfarina Unveils its Multi-Million Dollar BEV

Automobili Pininfarina has joined the ranks of the battery electric vehicle makers with the unveiling of its Barchetta, B95 hyper-sports car priced from an eye-watering €4.4M ($4.8M).

However, the pressure is off the eager billionaire buyers because the car, launched at Monterey Car Week, will be limited to just 10 vehicles globally. Naturally, the automaker makes great play on the car’s unique design qualities but you have to go looking for a hint of its performance potential.

We are told that the B95’s powertrain is propelled by a 120 kWh lithium-ion battery generating peak power of 1,400 kW (1,873bhp). Its liquid cooled and housed in a strong and lightweight carbon fiber housing, the pack can be charged using DC fast chargers up to 270kW for a 20-80% top up in just 25 mins. Four independent high-performance electric motors drive each wheel, with full Torque Vectoring profiles tailored by the Automobili Pininfarina team available across five distinct drive modes: Calma, Pura, Energica, Furiosa and Carattere. These are activated via rotary selector located next to the steering wheel.

Paolo Dellachà, chief executive officer, Automobili Pininfarina, said: “We’re taking another big step forward. The launch of the PURA Vision design concept then unlocked a new design philosophy for all future models from our brand, across a spectrum of different segments. Now, our new Barchetta shows how these design principles can be applied – with a retro-futuristic vision fusing classic motorsport themes with the latest technological innovations, materials and processes.” Handcrafting and deliveries of this limited-run masterpiece will begin in 2025, marking the 95th anniversary of Pininfarina SpA.
