NAVTEQ announces developments in Europe

NAVTEQ has launched NAVTEQ Traffic in Europe – giving drivers uninterrupted traffic information when crossing borders in nine countries: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.

NAVTEQ Traffic will be available in Luxembourg and the Netherlands by end-2009.

NAVTEQ Traffic delivers up-to-the-minute traffic information to in-vehicle nav systems, PNDs and mobile phones.

NAVTEQ has also announced the availability of NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns in six more European countries.

Launched in 2008 with coverage in Germany, the UK and France, NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns now covers Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Monaco and Andorra.

NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns is a robust traffic database incorporating typical traffic speeds on almost 600,000 km of primary and secondary roads across Europe, representing almost 90% of the most heavily travelled European roads, including roads in Berlin, London, Paris and Rome.

It provides accurate, uninterrupted and seamless information for typical traffic conditions and offers drivers continuous traffic coverage from one country to the next.

NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns is created using GPS probe and sensor data, which is aggregated, verified and then matched to traffic location codes.GPS data from Nokia handsets will be integrated into NAVTEQ's Traffic Patterns European solution for all nine countries by end-2009.

NAVTEQ reports that the number of turn-by-turn (TBT) navigation users in Europe has reached the 75 million mark.

The European TBT navigation user base comprises 15 million embedded in-vehicle navigation systems, 53 million PNDs, and 15 million mobile nav users.
