mxData acquires m-spatial

mxData specialises in the delivery of travel and related information to mobile phone users, including its traffictv service – which now boasts more than 100,000 subscribers.

Since 2001, m-spatial has invested in the development of software to enable effective searching and sharing of local information, including technology that enables locations to be bookmarked and shared across different types of media. In the process, it has built partnerships with vendors such as Orange, O2, Telefonica, Vodafone and Italian directory provider Seat Pagine Gialle.

The acquisition of m-spatial enables mxData to add the all-important 'last mile' capability. mxData's existing live traffic and travel services will now be augmented with destination information, location tools, and personal navigation from m-spatial.

m-spatial's former CEO & business development manager Rick Smith, who will join mxData's business development team, points out that the combined offering of the two companies now provides consumers with a complete journey planner, from departure to destination.
