Mobile World Congress News: NAVTEQ launches city guides worldwide

NAVTEQ launches NAVTEQ Discover Cities™ globally; launches Map Network® maps & content solutions in Europe, and secures PTV data for NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns™ in Germany.
NAVTEQ has announced the global launch of NAVTEQ Discover Cities™ – the first bundled digital map data and location content to bring the power of a local guide to mobile devices.
The product is now available for major cities in Europe, with plans in place to expand to major Asian and Latin American cities later in the year, in addition to multiple existing North American cities.
NAVTEQ Discover Cities combines pedestrian thoroughfares with public transit system information. When used in combination with other location content from NAVTEQ, such as JiWire Wi-Fi hotspots, branded travel guides, 3D Landmarks and 3D City Models, Discover Cities assists users’ transition from one type of transportation to another during a journey.
NAVTEQ is also offering its Map Network® maps and location content solutions in Europe, enabling destinations, events and venues throughout Europe to partner with NAVTEQ to create and market accurate customised maps and dynamic event guides in web-based and print formats.
Map Network maps and content solutions are also enabled for integration into mobile devices.
Offering rich local content and POIs, these maps enable places to showcase their brand in a highly customised, location-relevant way. Map Network products are built on a flexible content management system that allows online updating to provide visitors with up-to-date local content and fresh, accurate maps.
Map Network's Destination, Event and Venue products, as well as a prototype of its new Interactive Mobile Guide, are being demonstrated live at NAVTEQ's Mobile World Congress 2008.
NAVTEQ has also announced an agreement with PTV, under which PTV will provide NAVTEQ with data that quantifies the traffic flow averages for arterial roads within Germany. The data is continually validated with sensor and probe data. NAVTEQ will use proven proprietary technology to geo-reference, enhance and optimise this data for inclusion in the NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns™ Germany product.
NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns is a database of average traffic flow velocity for roadways geo-referenced to the NAVTEQ map database. Traffic Patterns provides the foundation for predictive traffic applications, offering developers enhanced alternate route features and more accurate drive time estimates for logistics and navigation products.
Consumer navigation devices recently launched in North America, equipped with NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns, now calculate the most ideal route based on time of the day and day of the week as traffic patterns change.
