Mazda Revives the Rotary ICE for Europe

Petrol-heads the world over could soon stop having to mourn the passing of the rotary engine with Mazda promising it will return.

The Japanese automaker champion of the rotary motor last seen in the MX-8, says it will be unveiling a vehicle at next week’s Brussels Motor Show 2023. The debut of its MX-30 is part of Mazda’s multi-solution approach to the global challenges of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

So now the automaker will introduce a rotary powertrain option for its MX-30 to be made available on the European market from the spring this year. The ICE rotary will be part of an unique plug-in hybrid powertrain for Mazda’s compact crossover where an electric generator will be powered by a newly-developed rotary engine. More details will be released at a later date.
