Lotus Reveals EV as First New Car in Decade

Iconic sportscar manufacturer Lotus will reveal its first new model in more than a decade this week in China and it will be a full BEV.
The Type 130, the first new model from the Norfolk factory in the UK since 2008,
continues its race car bloodline with what it describes as a hypercar now in advanced stages of development. Visitors to this week’s Shanghai International Auto Show 2019 will get the first look at the new machine although full technical specifications will not be released until an official launch planned for London later this year.
The carmaker says the Type 130 takes on the name coding first began with the Type 14, later to be known as the Elite, back in 1957 and a car that boasted the first use of a composite monocoque chassis is a production road car.
Lotus CEO Phil Popham, said: “Type 130 will be the most dynamically accomplished Lotus in our history. It marks a turning point for our brand and is a showcase of what we are capable of and what is to come from Lotus.”
