LexisNexis Patent Extends Connected Car Data Coverage

A US data aggregation specialist is claiming a global connected car coverage of 60% of vehicle production with the addition of a sixth patent for its technology.

LexisNexis Risk Solutions, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, now claims patents for technologies to ingest, analyze, normalize, store and distribute connected car data primarily to help insurers and automakers offer products that encourage safer driving employing usage-based insurance (UBI).

Paul Stacy, research and development director and director of automotive development, EMEA, said: “While this latest patent focuses on identifying the severity of collisions using connected car data from any number of data sources, all of our patents reinforce technology leadership and understanding of connected car data. We’re building on a 30-year history as a trusted custodian of consumer data, providing valuable reassurance for insurers and motor manufacturers as we enter a world in which vehicle, consumer and behavioral data will all come into play.”

Covering the US, UK, Europe and China, the newest patent award is the latest addition to the company’s connected car patent portfolio which includes more than eleven granted and pending patent applications for the US as well as India and Brazil.
