Latest Chinese BEV Entrant Claims 5-Star NCAP Rating

China’s latest BEV maker, Omoda, has earned a five-star safety rating by the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP), for its first model to market, the Omoda 5.
Euro NCAP rigorously evaluated the vehicle in December 2022 for its safety performance, ahead of the SUV’s arrival on sale in the UK in 2024. The comprehensive assessment process encompassed the full range of categories and scenarios to ensure the utmost protection for all occupants and pedestrians.
The Omoda 5 claimed excellence across all criteria scoring 87% for adult occupants, 87% for child occupants and 88% for safety assistance systems. At the car’s core is a high-strength steel body structure comprising 78% steel, engineered to withstand pressures of up to 1,800Mpa and. in the event of an accident, the cage body design helps structural integrity. The car boasts multiple airbags, including those for driver and passenger seats, side airbags, side curtains and a middle airbag to mitigate occupant-to-occupant collisions.
ADAS features include an array of avoidance systems, such as the ACC adaptive cruise, Lane Keeping Assist and Autonomous Emergency Braking.
