Google's Street View spreads around the world

Google Street View has been greeted with much hand-wringing from privacy brigades in the US and Europe, but the company has put in place safeguards to avoid privacy violations, including the blurring of any faces and vehicle registration numbers captured in Street View images.

Street View was launched in the US in May last year, andin France and Italy last month.

Google has also been given the green light from the UK's Information Commissioner to launch the Street View service that market.

Other countries that can expect the service in the not too distant future are those where Google's camera-equipped cars have been seen: Ireland, Germany, Spain, the Czech Republic, Japan, Switzerland and Norway.
