Geely Nabs JLR Design Guru For UK EV Plans

Flying in the face of the UK’s Brexit woes, EV focused Chinese manufacturer Geely is beefing up its design studio in the country with the signing of a former top Jaguar Land Rover designer as its boss.

Wayne Burgess, who until last year was JLR’s chief designer and design director, will head up a studio that will be have manpower boosted to 100 designers in Coventry in the Midlands known as the powerhouse of the UK’s auto industry. The center joins a global network of design studios used by Geely which counts the auto brands Volvo, Lotus, Proton and the London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) among its portfolio.

With studios in Shanghai, Gothenburg, Barcelona, California and Coventry the automaker has more than 900 design staff to meet the styling demands for individual markets. Burgess, who takes on the role of vice-president of Geely Design UK, said: “Geely Design has moved quickly to establish itself over the past five years, growing to become one of the strongest teams in the automotive design field.”
