Europe News: Intermap provides UK data for Microsoft’s Virtual Earth platform

Intermap Technologies has announced an agreement to provide Microsoft Corp with NEXTMap® Britain digital elevation data for use within Microsoft’s Virtual Earth platform.

The agreement enables Microsoft to create and deliver a Live Search Maps product powered by the most current and accurate digital terrain model of the UK.

Intermap’s 3D digital terrain model data will serve as the base layer for the placement and alignment of aerial photography and other geospatial layers.

The agreement also sets the stage for the future development of applications and solutions that rely on accurate digital elevation models – applications that would otherwise have been unachievable prior to Intermap’s creation of these 3D data sets.

As part of Intermap’s worldwide proactive data collection efforts, the UK is currently in the company’s data library. Intermap is currently mapping Europe under its NEXTMap® Europe program, with Germany now complete and the rest of Western Europe scheduled for completion by the end of this year. The continental US is also being mapped, and is scheduled for completion by end-2008.
