BYD to Debut Luxury BEV in Europe

Chinese automaker BYD has revealed first images of the European version of its new BEV flag-ship executive cruiser.

The Han EV, due to hit its domestic market next month, will feature specifications to suit the European consumer it has announced will be a major new market for the all-electric carmaker. This will be its first passenger car equipped with what it claims is a battery pack boasting enhanced safety features, dubbed the ‘Blade Battery’.

With a high-performance silicon carbide motor-control, the car claims a zero to 62mph in just 3.9 seconds. Its battery pack also claims to offer a single-charge range of 605 376 miles based on the NEDC test cycle.

The Han EV will also feature ‘DiPilot’, an advanced intelligent driving assistance system featuring self-learning and self-evolution abilities. Exact pricing has yet to be finalized but the automaker is pitching to keep the showroom tag below €55,000 ($59,000) to fit into the executive cruiser target market.

Yubo Lian, senior-vice president of BYD, said: “Its use of the ultra-safe Blade Battery, as well as BYD’s in-house pure electric platform, body structure design, eco-friendly materials and safety systems make the Han EV the safest electric car currently on the market. We believe that the Han EV combines the best of Eastern wisdom and Western aesthetics and will fulfil the growing overseas market for a high performance, long-range and ultra-safe electric car. In the longer term, we are also looking forward to seeing the Han EV making a positive impact in other markets around the world.”
