BEV Version of New BMW 5 Series Confirmed

BMW will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its executive level 5 Series Sedan with the unveiling of the model’s eighth generation car and confirming a BEV variant “in a few months’ time”.

The automaker has released a sneak peek veiled image with some rudimentary details about its powertrain options. Naturally, there will be a BEV variant but it will be joined by plug-in hybrid models as well as gasoline and diesel ICE versions employing with 48V mild hybrid technology.

So far, the automaker is indicating the BEV variant will use as similar powertrain as that in the current BMW i4 M50. It claims electric power consumption in kWh/100 km, on the combined WLTP rating of between 22.5 – 18.1.

At the automaker’s annual conference, Oliver Zipse, chairman of the board of management of BMW AG, said: “The all-electric BMW i4 M50 shows how BMW blends dynamic performance and electric mobility to perfection. It was the best-selling BMW M model worldwide in 2022. A fully electric performance version from BMW M GmbH will also be included in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan line-up.” He added that the worldwide launch of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan will get underway in October 2023.
