Bentley Offers V8 Roar to GT

Bentley is offering the evocative roar of a V8 as an option for customers of its Continental GT in both Coupé and Convertible models.

The new engine will run alongside its existing W12 engined Continental GT and should offer a raunchier driving experience than the super smooth bigger sibling. It claims improved weight distribution to help the GT V8 feel even more agile and responsive.

Bentley says the motor is a new-generation 4.0-liter, 32-valve V8 gasoline engine producing 542bhp and 568ft-lbs of torque, enough to fire the big car in Coupé form from standstill to 62mph in 4 seconds on the way to a top speed of 198mph.

Despite the performance, fuel efficiency is enhanced by its cylinder de-activation system which will shut down half the cylinders when not called on for fast driving. Also its engine stop-start technology can operate at ‘near-to-stop’ speeds. The car boasts the Bentley Drive Dynamics selector which allows the driver to select different dynamic modes, from refinement and comfort to focused handling in Sport mode.

Air suspension is provided ride comfort and dynamic character, with the scope to vary from sporting spring stiffness to luxury limousine refinement, depending on which mode is selected. Continuous damping control constantly adjusts the suspension damper forces in response to road inputs, vehicle movement and driver demand. GT V8 models are equipped with front and rear hollow, lightweight anti-roll bars to enhance handling while the adaptive chassis helps control ride comfort and lateral roll, is also available as an option.

In among the cabin’s selection of leathers and sustainably sourced veneers, there’s a 10-speaker Bentley Audio system with 650 watts of power, a fully digital, driver-focused instrument panel and the optional Bentley Rotating Display. This features a 12.3-inch touchscreen housed in a three-sided unit, which revolves from the veneer to reveal the touchscreen.

On top of the car’s active all-wheel drive system and electric power-assisted steering, the V8 models are offered with a range of ADAS, such as active lane assist, traffic jam assist and park assist.
