Asia News: China’s digital map market is booming

Industry analysts report that the Chinese market for map-based devices and applications is one of the fastest growing in the world.

Telematics Research Group projects that China’s in-vehicle navigation market will grow from 80,000 units in 2005 to nearly 1.5 million systems by 2012, and dedicated PNDs from 220,000 units in 2006 to more than 2.8 million in 2012.

China is also the world’s largest market for mobile phones, and iSuppli predicts that domestic shipments will rise from and expected 1.4 million units in 2007 to 16.5 million in 2011.

Taking advantage of China’s booming navigation market, Tele Atlas has announced Tele Atlas MultiNet™ China, the most complete digital map of the country available with street level coverage for more than 3,000 provincial and county cities.
