America News: XM shareholders approve Sirius merger

XM Satellite Radio’s stockholders have voted to approve the previously announced merger with Sirius Satellite Radio, with 99.8% of votes cast in favour of the transaction.

"Today's vote is the latest demonstration of the strong support for our merger from a wide range of individuals and prestigious organisations who recognise the benefits that a merger will bring to consumers," said XM chairman of the board, Gary Parsons.

The merger remains subject to regulatory approval by the US Dept of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission.

XM says it is optimistic that the merger will be approved by the end of the year.
