America News: ORBCOMM rep authorised to operate in Mexico

After a two-year review process, ORBCOMM’s Mexican country representative, MITE Global Communications Systems has obtained regulatory authorisation by the Secretaria de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT) to provide ORBCOMM satellite services in Mexico.
ORBCOMM will offer the cheapest two-way M2M satellite communications in Mexico.
ORBCOMM and MITE have been contracting with Value-Added Resellers (VARs) during the course of the regulatory review, and the companies expect to begin serving customers in Mexico immediately.
The regulatory authorisation also opens the Mexican market to ORBCOMM’s existing international VARs, such as GE, Komatsu, Caterpillar, American Innovations, and Fleet Management Solutions.
According to MITE’s chief executive officer Miguel Gomez Villalobos, Mexico’s large rural land mass has historically offered challenges for intermodal companies wanting to track their fleet from port to delivery.
ORBCOMM’s low-earth-orbit system now makes that possible, not only within Mexico but seamlessly throughout the US and Canada as well.
