America News: Networks In Motion reaches 1 million paid mobile phone navigation subscribers

Networks In Motion recently exceeded one million paid users of its real-time navigation services on GPS-enabled mobile phones based on the company’s LBS NavBuilder™ platform.
Networks In Motion’s LBS platform delivers turn-by-turn, voice-prompted directions with auto-rerouting if a turn is missed, as well as local search of nearly 14 million POIs and detailed colour maps.
“Reaching one million paid subscribers in just over a year is a major milestone that shows consumers are choosing the convenience of GPS navigation on a device they already carry with them everyday,” said Doug Antone, president & CEO of Networks In Motion.
According to Chris Hazelton, senior analyst in IDC’s Mobile Device Technology & Trends program, both local search and turn-by-turn navigation will drive strong interest for GPS navigation on mobile phones over the next twelve months, posing the greatest threat to the PND market.
According to Frost & Sullivan, the total US LBS market will exceed $600 million by 2008.
