America News: Microsoft’s Tellme may give OnStar a run for its money

A Bloomberg News report suggests that Microsoft’s Tellme could be an alternative to the in-car navigation and assistance now offered exclusively by GM’s OnStar communications service.

The voice-recognition software allows mobile telephone users to receive spoken data from Microsoft's Tellme database.

Microsoft's service connects via a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone in the car, and can be paired with the digital music and mobile phone software known as Sync to be offered by Ford Motor Co.

Microsoft obtained the technology when it acquired Tellme Networks earlier this year.
