ALK launches CoPilot Live v8 for smartphones

Key features in CoPilot Live v8 include:
- Turn-after-Turn display – shows the next turn and the one after
- Variable map zoom automatically adjusts the map display depending on your speed.
- Provides continuous guidance when GPS signal is lost in a tunnel.
- Redesigned menus, shortcut button, flickable lists and fluid sliding maps
- Automatic or manual switching between portrait and landscape mode.
- Adjustable map size at the touch of a button
- Improved destination entry – navigate to a house, zip code, cross street, GPS co-ordinate, or geo-tagged photograph.
- My Places feature provides easy access to favourite destinations
- Improved pre-recorded voices provide clear spoken directions at each turn.
- Text-to-speech voice guidance pronounces full street names
- CoPilot CommandTM voice recognition allow hands-free operation of the main controls
- Turn-by-turn directions with pedestrian-specific routing, on-screen compass and directions along footpaths
- Direct dialling to POIs, location sending via text and photo navigation
- POI database imports and software update downloads via CoPilot Central 2.0
Previous versions of CoPilot Live provide useful live services via the phone's mobile Internet connection. Version 8 expands the range of services to include:
- Live local search – integrated access to location-specific Internet search
- Live Traffic information – constantly updated traffic information with automatic warnings and re-routing
- Live Weather conditions for current location, destination and along the route
- Live Fuel Prices provides directions to the closest or cheapest fuel stations near current location
- CoPilot® LiveLinkTM – enables location sharing between user and CoPilot friends on-screen or online
- CoPilot OnDemandTM – enables customers to buy extra maps online and download them directly to their phones via mobile Internet, WiFi
CoPilot Live v8 is initially available for Windows Mobile and Android-based smartphones. It has also been approved by Apple for iPhone 3G and 3Gs in Europe, and is expected to launch via the iPhone App Store in North America shortly.
