3GSM News: Nuance launches speech-enabled navigation for cell-phones & PDAs

Nuance Communications has launched the Nuance Mobile Navigation Service Package for the Nuance Mobile Speech Platform, offering spoken turn-by-turn directions to mobile navigation applications for cell-phones and PDAs.
The availability of navigation on mainstream mobile phones is a key growth driver in the location-based search market – a market that analysts forecast will exceed $1 billion in 2008 the US alone.
“Wireless location-based services present a tremendous revenue opportunity for both wireless providers and application providers, but widespread consumer adoption requires a more efficient user interface, such as speech,” said Michael Thompson, Nuance’s vice president & general manager – telco, search & communications.
Nuance believes its Mobile Navigation Service package will help drive consumer acceptance of navigation applications by making them easier to use on mobile phones.
