$200 million USD Investment from Bosch Ushers in a New Era for Indian Telematics

The R&D centre will focus a comprehensive suite of connected car services, including ADAS functions, autonomous driving and automotive computer vision. And the good news doesn’t stop there for the automotive telematics industry.  Tata Motors and Samsung are joining forces to offer in-car smart-phone based connectivity via Samsung’s Drive Link app.  Services offered in Tata vehicles will include music access, hands-free calling and in-car navigation.  Moving into the realm of the futuristic, Renault’s new Kwid concept car will have a built-in drone that can be launched the vehicle’s roof to observe traffic conditions and obstacles on the road ahead.

These recent developments usher in a new-found optimism which appears to being echoed across the industry. Pranshu Gupta, CEO of Trak N Tell, an India-based developer of a smartphone app that will provide real-time tracking and alternate routing information to drivers agrees, stating that “Telematics is currently nascent in India.  But I’m very optimistic. Five years ago, we had no cars here with MP3 players. Now Bluetooth and MP3 are standard equipment.”
