Mr. Julien Reid holds the position of Senior Director, Financial Institutions Oversight and Deposit Insurance within the Solvency Superintendence of the Autorité des marchés financiers (Québec) (“AMF”).

He manages the Financial Institutions Prudential Oversight Section and the Financial Institutions Capital Oversight Section which are responsible, amongst others, for the drafting of Guidelines and regulation for financial institutions authorized to carry on business in the province of Québec. These Guidelines deal specifically with sound and prudential management practices, adequacy of capital and commercial practices. He also manages the Deposit Insurance Section which is responsible for the deposit insurance scheme and the Fonds d’assurance-dépôts of the AMF.

Mr. Reid is very much involved at the national and international level. Between 2011 and 2104, he chaired the Insurance Core Principles Implementation Committee of the Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators. Until October 2014, he was the Chair of the Market Conduct Working Group of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (“IAIS”) for nearly 4 years and in that capacity, he represented the IAIS on the OECD Task Force on Financial Consumer Protection, the International Forum of Insurance Guarantee Schemes and the International Financial Consumer Protection Organisation (FinCoNet). He has been a member, for the last several years, of the IAIS Governance Working Group and of the Financial Crime Task Force. He is also the Designated Representative for the AMF at the International Association of Deposit Insurers where he sits in the Research and Guidance Committee. He has been recently nominated as chair the Resolution of Financial Cooperatives Subcommittee.

Before joining AMF Solvency, he was a member of AMF Legal Affairs. Mr. Reid practiced law in major Canadian law firms, before joining the AMF in 2004. He has taught at the School of the Barreau de Québec (Québec Bar) and he is a certified trainer at the Collège des administrateurs de sociétés of the Université Laval (Québec). He has also been invited by numerous national and international organizations to give talks. He was called to the Bar of the Province of Québec in 1991. 

M. Julien Reid est le Directeur Principal, Encadrement des institutions financières et assurance-dépôts, au sein de la Surintendance de l’encadrement de la Solvabilité de l’Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF).

Il supervise la Direction de l’encadrement prudentiel des institutions financières et la Direction de l’encadrement du capital des institutions financières qui sont entre autres responsables de la rédaction des lignes directrices et de la réglementation applicables aux institutions financières faisant affaires au Québec. Ces lignes directrices traitent plus spécifiquement des pratiques de gestion saines et prudentes, de maintien de capital suffisant et de pratiques commerciales. Il supervise également la Direction de l’assurance-dépôts qui est responsable de la gestion du système d’assurance-dépôts et du Fonds d’assurance-dépôts de l’AMF.

M. Reid est très impliqué tant au niveau national qu’international. De 2011 à 2014, il a présidé le Comité responsable de l’application des Principes directeurs de l’AICA au sein du Conseil canadien des régulateurs responsables de l’assurance. En plus d’être membre du Governance Working Group et du Financial Crime Task Force au sein de l’Association internationale des contrôleurs d’assurance (AICA), il a présidé, jusqu’en octobre 2014, le Market Conduct Working Group de cette organisation pendant près de 4 ans. À ce titre, il areprésenté cette organisation au sein du Task Force on Financial Consumer Protection de l’OCDE, l’International Forum of Insurance Guarantee Schemes et l’International Financial Consumer Protection Organisation (FinCoNet). Enfin, il est le représentant désigné de l’AMF au sein de l’International Association of Deposit Insurers où il siège entre autre au Research and Guidance Committee. Il a récemment été nommé à titre de président du Comité sur la résolution des coopératives de services financiers.

Avant de se joindre à la Surintendance de l’encadrement de la solvabilité, il a travaillé au sein de la Direction des affaires juridiques de l’AMF. M. Reid a exercé en pratique privée dans des cabinets nationaux avant de débuter sa carrière au sein de l’AMF en 2004. Il a enseigné à l’École du Barreau de Québec (Barreau du Québec) et il est un formateur certifié au Collège des administrateurs de sociétés de l’Université Laval (Québec). Il a enfin été invité par plusieurs organisations au niveau national et international à titre de conférencier. Il a été admis au Barreau du Québec en 1991.

Amanda Evenson, FCIP, NPDP, is Manager, Product Innovation for the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company and has held this position since 2014.  Amanda started her career at Wawanesa in 1999 in the Actuarial Department and over the years, she assumed roles of increasing responsibility. She has played an instrumental role in a number of key initiatives for Wawanesa including, policy system replacement, introducing several Auto product reforms and sponsoring an Enterprise Data Warehouse project. She was product manager for a billion dollar portfolio of automobile insurance products for 6 years before assuming this new role in product innovation.

Amanda holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) degree from the University of Manitoba and earned her Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designation in 2006.  She has also just recently obtained for New Product Development Professional designation in 2015.  She is passionate about volunteering and has chaired the United Way campaign for all of Wawanesa’s Winnipeg operations, created a committee to develop a natural play space in her community and helped her local daycare relocate to a new location amongst other work for their board.  Professionally, Amanda has also sat on the Credit History Working Group and the IBC Auto Underwriting Working Group.

Alex is the Vice-President Ajusto and Innovation at Desjardins Insurance (DI). He is responsible for the the vision around innovation at DI. His role is focused on the evolution of the P&C insurance products leveraging new technologies around telematics, internet of things, biometric and others. He is also responsible for building strong industry relationships and partnerships to support DI vision while acting as an internal innovation leader to enable the cultural change at DI.

Prior to working at DI, Alex spent his career abroad in Silicon Valley, India, Switzerland and New York City where he was part of major technological disruptions in sectors such as Pharmaceutical Research, Healthcare IT, eBanking and eCommerce. During those years, he advanced not only the technology used in those industries but also worked to improve on the regulations and defining innovative market strategies.

Colin Wright founded Corner Two Consulting with the objective of helping clients prepare for the advent of UBI. Colin first acquired expertise in the field when he led strategy, product and market development for Aviva’s Autograph, the first telematics-enabled UBI program in Canada. 

While leading Autograph, he profitably managed the portfolio, notably improving risk quality. As the subject matter expert and champion for the category, he raised awareness of UBI, moving it to the forefront of Aviva’s ‘Change Insurance’ agenda, and secured a significant budget for product and business case development. Colin led the definition of the next-generation, wireless version of the UBI product and facilitated design of the systems architecture. He has been consulted by the RAND Corporation as a subject matter expert for two (US) Transportation Research Board studies on usage-based charging for transportation.

Colin has a comprehensive background in financial services. Working with The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company, BMO Bank of Montreal, Harris Bank and Aviva Canada Inc., he has gained broad experience in operations consulting, product design and development, consumer research and analytics. He enhanced the value of a number of consumer banking products including BMO’s innovative Mosaik MasterCard retail credit card through new feature development and cost management, and by leveraging loyalty programs such as Air Miles. He has also acted as a key advisor to, the groundbreaking total cost of ownership automotive website.

Bob has a United States Patent for his work in misfire detection systems and has been involved in numerous “first in the world starts” of new vehicle powertrain applications. Bob has also been involved in the development and testing of On Board Diagnostics Systems and publications in the area of OBD Communications techniques.

Bob is currently the OBD Communication Expert for Volkswagen Group of America. His duties include investigation and analysis of OBD issues in the field for Volkswagen group vehicles. His activities also include technical representation for the Volkswagen Group in North America in OBD related matters. He is Vice-Chairman of the SAE E/E Diagnostics Committee and is a constant contributor to its attendant OBD-related Task Forces. He is Vice-Chairman of both the J1962 Vehicle Diagnostic Connector Task Force and J1978 OBDII Scan Tool Task Forces. He is also co-author of the J1699-2 Test Cases for OBD-II Scan Tools and I/M Test Equipment Task Force.

Ted Harman is president of Accent Insurance Solutions in Montréal. Ted has 30 years of experience in the Canadian property casualty insurance industry and has worked both on the insurer and broker sides of the business. Ted currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Regroupement des Cabinets de Courtage d’Assurance du Québec as Secretary Treasurer, he is Vice Chairman of the board of the CSIO and is a director of IBAC where he also serves on the technology committee.

In addition to his experience running a mid-sized insurance brokerage in Montréal, Ted has diverse experience in claims, human resources, marketing and branch operations. Immediately prior to purchasing his brokerage Ted was Vice President, Business Development of the Montréal region of ING Insurance (now Intact Insurance).

Jim Kenzie is Canada's foremost automotive journalist. He is Chief Auto Reviewer for The Toronto Star's Wheels section which is approaching 30 years as Canada's leading automotive publication.

He appears on "Kenzie's Korner" on TSN'S Motoring, Canada's most-watched and most-authoritative automotive television program, now in its 27th season, which places it among the longest-running television programs in the world, not simply Canada.

Jim's work also appears in a variety of magazines, newspapers and web sites around the world.

Jim was the inaugural winner of the Journalist of the Year Award, presented by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada. He serves on juries to select the Canadian Car and Utility Vehicle of the Year, the North American Car and Truck of the Year, the International Engines of the Year, and the Vehicle Dynamics International Awards.

He has been an active, licenced, professional-grade racing driver since his early-twenties, and is a three-time Targa Newfoundland Rally Open Division driving champion.

Jim has a life-long interest in traffic safety, which actually pre-dates his automotive journalism career. This is why he has selected Parachute, Canada's leading injury prevention organization, as the beneficiary of this annual photography calendar, which is now in its tenth year of production.

Cindy has deep industry knowledge in both claims and underwriting with a focus on the usage of analytics and data to enhance business outcomes.  She previously held positions at financial and business architecture positions in the insurance industry, ACORD, management consulting and research and advisory services firm Strategy Meets Action where she was a co-founder.

Cindy is a CPA.  She is  passionate about solving business problems and eternally believes in process improvement and strongly believes that today’s next generation business intelligence in the form of advanced analytics will revolutionize the insurance industry.

Prior to joining Kanetix Ltd. in 2011 as CIO, Andrew enjoyed years of success leading the development of financial services technology in North America. Andrew co-founded GUI Software Systems in the early 90's building leading edge productivity software for the North American real estate industry. Market leadership early on led to pursuing a vision to build an end to end network to support a fully electronic real estate transaction from purchase to financing.

Industry recognition and acclaim resulted in acquisition by Filogix Inc. I have been with the Insurance Brokers Association of Alberta for the past 5 years, starting as the Executive Officer and Chief Executive Officer since July 1, 2011.

I was born and raised on a farm north of Edmonton. I am married and had four adult children and I am the proud grandfather of a 4 month old granddaughter. I have a Bachelor’s of Commerce Degree majoring in Accounting from the University of Alberta and have held a Certified Fraud Examiners Designation. Prior to my time with the IBAA, I worked for 20 years in the accounting and forensic accounting field for an accounting firm, in private industry and more recently as a criminal investigator with Canada Revenue Agency.

I am a history and political junkie that enjoys spending time with my family and on my farms as well as reading.

Larry holds an MBA from the University of Toronto, a B. Math (Computer Science) from the University of Waterloo, and is a Certified Management Consultant.  He is also on the faculty of the University of Toronto where he has created and delivered programs in IT strategy and Big Data analytics.
