    Dr. Eugene Wen is the Vice President and Chief Statistician at the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB). He is responsible for the Corporate Statistics Division. He advises the President, CEO and senior management on evidence-based decision making, develops strategic projects and capacity in advanced analytics, assesses factors related to injured worker benefit liability and return to work, and builds predictive models to inform strategic and claim decisions. Eugene also facilitates cross-organizational collaborations on analytical affairs and liaises with the external research community and agencies. Eugene and his team have been using advanced analytics to support the business transformation of this century old organization.

    Eugene was trained in both clinical medicine and public health.

    He is currently managing several Transportation accounts, which range from 25 to 500 power units. The accounts are diverse from TL / LTL, bulk, container, and drayage and vary from both traditional and alternative risk management programs, including captives and rent-a-captives, loss portfolio transfers, finite risk programs, and integrated risk programs.

His Gangs in Canada is used as a criminology textbook at Kwantlen University in B.C., while another book was adapted last year into a musical stage play by the University of Toronto’s Theatre Erindale. His most recent book is Prevail, about a war in Africa that changed the world.

In that capacity he lead Trimble’s insurance telematics strategy. Previous positions include head of business development at Eyematics Interfaces, head of technology and content licensing at Infoseek and co-founder of WebTrack and Market Arts WebFacts. Both were data companies pioneering in measuring advertising activity on the internet.

    Gary Wang is a Consulting Actuary with Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, Inc. in the firm’s Bloomington office. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from the University of Illinois and a Master of Science degree in mathematics education from Northern Illinois University. He also has extensive graduate level coursework in Theoretical and Applied Mathematics from Northern Illinois University, and seventeen years of actuarial experience in the property/casualty insurance industry.

    Mr. Wang is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He currently serves the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) as a member of the Ratemaking and Product Management Planning Committee and the Examination Committee. He is also a SAS® Certified Predictive Modeler using SAS® Enterprise Miner™ 5.

    At Pinnacle, Mr. Wang has worked extensively on the application of advanced statistical modeling techniques to the insurance process. His experience in predictive analytics applications include rating and underwriting plan design, homeowners by-peril analysis, auto vehicle characteristics analysis and scorecard development, territory boundary development and telematics based driving data research. Mr. Wang has made numerous presentations on topics relating to predictive modeling and its applications within the insurance industry.
